Hi, I’m Hayley.
Ever since I can remember I’ve been a writer. It started in Jr. High when I kept a pretty scandalous diary chronicling every boy I had a crush on and watched from afar. (Later on in life, I learned this was called “stalking.” So, I moved on from “watching from afar” to DM-ing strangers on social media, which is how I landed my husband. But that’s a story for another day!) During college at Baylor University in Texas, I majored in Journalism with a minor in Public Relations, and it was there I realized that I was destined to become a famous news anchor!
…Except, I was radically wrong. BUT! I did intern at a local news station in Waco, writing on-air teasers about riveting news stories such as upcoming county fairs and dogs dressed up as Elvis impersonators (hard-hitting news at its finest, folks).
I’m a native Texan but decided to call Nashville home in 2009. I spent the first six years here working in country music PR until I met a sporty fella with a weird sense of humor and cool sneakers (the cool sneaker thing was huge for me). A few years and a marriage and kids later, I decided to trade in my late-night industry schmoozing for late-night feeding sessions and diaper changes. I am now the butler— I mean mother— to Scout (7), Talley (5), and Tru (2), and most days you can find me just following them around cleaning up the aftermath of whatever they’ve destroyed/making sure that they do not break any limbs.
After becoming a mom, it became even more apparent that writing was what truly made me come alive (and trust me, when you’re sleep-deprived and stressed out with toddlers, you need to feel alive somehow. You also need to feel hip and cool, which led to a cartilage ear piercing gone wrong… but that’s neither here nor there, I suppose.) I first became a Senior Writer for Womanista, a women’s lifestyle brand that has since become popculture.com. After that, I focused on freelance writing for a variety of publications, most recently Style Blueprint Nashville.
